Och ~ I spoke too soon. Today I awoke to a very cold frosty morning & by 10am it was snowing. Then the sun came out for a while & then it started raining. I cycled across the Moray & Dornoch Firths today and saw my first signpost for John O Groats. I gradually made my way up to Brora where I am staying tonight. I had intended to be at the camp site here but I was having trouble finding it & rain was threatening again so I dived into an open field & just managed to get my tent up & get inside before it started to rain again. It’s cosy in my little tent hearing the wind & the rain outside & eating my food supplies. I must be looking a bit tramp like again. Today I stopped at an Asda in Tain to buy food & there were these teenage lads outside milling around. They came to talk to me & said ” blimey you are wet” then they asked me about my cycle ride etc. When I came out of Asda the 14 year old named Danny gave me 50p. “It’s for your charities” he said “or to buy yourself some new clothes”. I must have looked bad ~ ho ho. I was very touched by his offering & then all his young friends started emptying their pockets & giving me 10p’s & 20p’s etc. I thanked them all & said it would all go to my charities & I cycled off with a smile on my face & my heart warmed by their kindness & good humour. Tomorrow I hope to head up through the Flow country (weather permitting) to Portskerra . It will take me through one of the most isolated parts of Scotland. However if the weather is bad I will remain on the coast road towards John o Groats. My main aim now is to safely complete my journey on Friday. I’ll keep in touch as much as I can ~ I don’t know what the internet signal will be like as I head even further north. Thank you all for your support & encouragement.
